Morgan Middle School "Create A Culture" Exhibit
The "Create A Culture" exhibit is created and designed by the Morgan Middle School 6th graders.
Every year the 6th graders create a culture as part of a class project. They learn about "cultural universals," the key elements shared by all groups of people throughout the history of man, such as: shelter, education, defense, food, religion, etc. Using this information the 6th graders create their own cultures, complete with their own cultural universals and artifacts. They then come to the museum and set up their own exhibits.
At the museum they learn about the process an object goes through when it is donated to a museum and the importance of logging in donations and loans, writing condition reports, and identifying their objects with a special numbering system. They then create informative labels and display their items in exhibit cases.
The opening reception was during the First Friday Art Walk, on December 4, 2009 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. It was a wonderful event, with students and their families and friends showing up to celebrate the accomplishments of the Morgan Middle School 6th grade classes. We had a turn-out of 142 people for the opening reception. Thanks to everyone for making it such a success!
The created cultures with artifacts were on display through the month of January.
